Grupo Firme Cancels Mazatlán Show After Chilling Death Threat

Written by on February 27, 2025

Mexican regional music sensation Grupo Firme has canceled their upcoming performance at the Mazatlán Carnival, originally scheduled for March 1, 2025, following a chilling death threat accompanied by a severed human head discovered in Tijuana. The threat, allegedly from a drug cartel, warned the band against performing at the event.

The gruesome discovery was made on a highway in Tijuana’s La Gloria neighborhood, over 1,000 miles from Mazatlán. A banner found with the severed head read: “Grupo Firme if you perform at the Mazatlán Carnival we will kill you all.”

In response, Grupo Firme’s label, Music VIP Entertainment, announced the cancellation, emphasizing the safety of fans and the team: “The well-being of those who have accompanied us on this journey: our family, which is you, our fans, is and always will be the most important thing.”

Other artists, including Josi Cuen and Jorge Medina, also canceled their performances at the carnival. This incident is part of a troubling trend of musical acts receiving threats from cartels, impacting performances in Mexico.

Authorities in Baja California have launched an investigation into the incident. The Mazatlán Institute of Culture, Tourism, and Arts, organizers of the event, have yet to comment on the situation.

Grupo Firme, formed in 2014, has achieved significant success with hits like “El Beneficio De La Duda” … .” They won the Best Banda Album at the 2021 Latin Grammy Awards for “Nos Divertimos Logrando Lo Imposible.”

This incident underscores the escalating threats faced by musicians in Mexico, with previous cases involving artists like Natanael Cano and Peso Pluma receiving similar warnings.
